Capacity building of animal health practitioners in Kenya

ProgRESSVet-Kenya is an education and training program for animal health and veterinary professionals. The primary goals of ProgRESSVet are to improve local, national, and regional practices for animal health and to promote access to international trade markets for sustained local development. ProgRESSVet-Kenya launched in January 2020 with an initial cohort of 15 veterinarians.

Participants completed five months of online coursework (January-May) focused on competency-based training designed to address veterinary and animal health workforce challenges and gaps in Kenya. For the duration of the calendar year, participants worked in teams to develop funding proposals to support improved pathways for the trade of animals and animal products.

In collaboration with the Veterinary Services of Kenya (VSK), the Kenya Women Veterinary Association (KWVA), and the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB), ProgRESSVet-Kenya successfully trained three cohorts consisting of 65 veterinarians.   The three groups (VSK,KWVA and KVB) assisted with the project implementation, workshop logistics, program planning, and continuing education credits.
